Web MD reports approximately 20 percent of Americans avoid dental visits because of fear. At Whitmore Dental, we work with you to plan your dental visit, so your experience is completely pain-free and even relaxing.
Dr. Marc Whitmore is highly trained and experienced in administering different levels of sedation medication to support our patients’ needs.
For some patients, Nitrous Oxide, more commonly known as laughing gas, provides a more relaxed care experience. Once treatment is complete, the gas takes about 3-5 minutes to wear off, and then you can safely drive home.
Others may need additional options, including:
Oral Conscious Sedation Dentistry
With oral conscious sedation dentistry, you’ll be sleepy and relaxed during your appointment, and may not remember much of it – but you won’t be unconscious as patients are during full anesthesia. A friend or family member should drive you to and from your appointment, since you will need to take a prescribed pill about 30 minutes prior.
Intravenous Sedation Dentistry
Some patients require a deeper level of sedation care. For people with certain stress-related health conditions, intravenous sedation care can be an appropriate choice. With IV sedation dentistry, Dr. Whitmore works side-by-side, in our dental practice, with an anesthesiologist. Throughout the dental treatment process, the anesthesiologist monitors vital signs and medication, while Dr. Whitmore completes dental treatment.
With IV sedation, you will need a friend or family member to care for you following treatment.
We look forward to helping you discover a much better dental experience – one that puts your fears to rest and leaves you with a healthy mouth and great-looking smile!
